I wish I had my camera the day I happened upon this tree. When I returned to the spot for the picture, the sun was shining and had muted the effect. On the day I discovered it, the sky was overcast and grey, the street slick and dark. I turned my eyes toward the tree and was flooded with a sensation of warmth and color. The contrast between the grey of the rainy street and the vibrant leaves was striking. I ducked under the tree which still had leaves in it, and deep color encircled me as if I’d walked into a plush, red room. It was magical. I hadn’t known until that moment, the power color holds over our senses.
